ABSTRACT
Following the Italian LD 50/2016 (known as “New Public Procurement Code”), and subsequently the Italian LD 560/2017 (known as “Decree BIM”), interoperability between different programs for Building Information Modeling has become a growing issue, discussed among operators in the construction sector. This is highlighted also by the very frequent discussions on forums and chats among users of different software.
This paper aims at contributing in clarifying the concept of interoperable platforms, open formats and export in compatible formats. Besides pointing out at the very frequent misunderstandings, it illustrates the difficulties met while trying to integrate data linked to models created with different software. The study shows how interoperability is a problem which in practice is much more complex than declared at theoretical level.
